Emergency Medical Procedures for Athletic Trainers: Ambulance Call-In
1. Primary Notifications
The Athletic Trainer (AT) is responsible for immediately notifying the Event Director and/or Site Director via text or phone call whenever an injury or accident requires emergency medical services (EMS).
2. Immediate Actions
- Point of Contact: The AT or a designated staff member must meet the ambulance at the facility entrance to direct them to the exact location of the athlete.
- Crowd Control: The Site Director will assist in clearing the area and managing spectators to provide the medical team with adequate space.
- The "Hand-Off" Rule: The AT should have the athlete’s emergency contact info and any known allergies ready to hand to the EMS crew.
3. Documentation & Reporting
The AT must complete a formal Incident Report before leaving the event site for the day. A digital or physical copy must be submitted to the Event/Site Director.
